SPECIFICATIONS

1. SCOPE
1.1 Contractor shall furnish MANHOLE
INSERTS as called for in the specification.
1.2 The INSERT shall effectively reduce or prevent surface water inflow
through manhole covers. The insert shall also prove effective in keeping
grit, sand, salt, chemical spills, foreign objects, road oils, etc. from
entering the collection system lines.
1.3 INSERT shall be manufactured specifically for use in collection system
manholes.
2. MATERIAL AND DESIGN
2.1 The INSERT shall be manufactured from
ABS material that meets ASTM D-4673 Specifications. This material is
commonly found in waste water collection systems and has superior stress
crack resistance, combined with a high impact strength and rigidity.
2.2 The premolded thickness of the INSERT shall be no less than 1/8" or
greater than 3/16".
2.3 The INSERT shall be manufactured to meet the dimensions provided by the
purchaser to allow easy installation within the manhole frame.
2.4 To enhance performance, the INSERT shall have a positive arch - "bubble
top", not a negative arch - bowl or inverted dome. Drawings should be
provided upon request.
3. INSTALLATION
3.1 The manhole rim shall be cleaned of
all dirt and debris before placing the INSERT upon the rim.
3.2 The INSERT shall be fully seated around the manhole frame rim.
3.3 The manhole cover is replaced as before, and the installation is
complete.
4. REMOVAL
4.1 The INSERT shall have (2) corrosion
resistant lifting lugs molded into the insert for easy removal and
re-installation into the manhole frame. The lifting lugs will be located 180
degrees apart and designed to be functional with a standard "J" hook.
5. GASKET
5.1 The INSERT shall have a closed cell
neoprene gasket with adhesive backing, installed upon the insert rim by the
manufacturer.
6. VENTING
6.1 If the valve option is elected by
purchaser an INSERT will be supplied with a Tideflex® Relief/Check Valve
installed in the center of the INSERT.
6.2 The Tideflex Relief/Check Valve shall have a 1.25" inside diameter, and
shall be press-fit into center of INSERT with PVC bushing.
6.3 The Tideflex shall have a tapered, low-profile design.
6.4 The Tideflex shall be able to discharge 20 CFM during venting operation.
6.5 The Tideflex shall have a cracking pressure of 1/2" WC.
6.6 The Tideflex shall be a flexible and durable all-elastomer construction
and shall be able to withstand field abuse without damage.
7. MEASUREMENT
7.1 The INSERT shall be manufactured to
fit the manhole frame rim upon which the manhole cover rests. Exact
measurements shall be required from the purchaser.
7.2 Instructions and measuring diagrams will be made available to the
purchaser, to insure a proper fit of INSERT within the manhole frame.
8. ACCESS FOR TESTING OF AIR QUALITY
8.1
Optional, available upon request. Purchaser must designate, if required.
