The atmospheric vacuum breaker is designed to
protect against backsiphonage of contaminated
water into the potable water supply in low and
high hazard applications. It should be mounted
a minimum of 6” above the highest point of discharge
and where it can never be submerged
or where water venting from the device may be
deemed objectionable. Local codes govern installation
requirements.
Maximum working water pressure is 125 psi, but is not intended to
be used under continuous pressure (no more than 12 hours of pressure
per 24 hours). Therefore, never place a shutoff valve or check
valve downstream. For applications under continuous pressure, see
the Pressure Vacuum Breaker listed below. Bodies are cast bronze
with FDA approved silicone and Buna-N elastomers and NSF listed
polymers. Max. working temperature is 180°F.
